A Book that Changed My Life

It was "Sea of faith" by Don Cupitt. I don't totally agree with Cupitt, but he showed me that religion should not be evaluated by scientific measures. This is a very cruel world that we live in, and our mind needs some "myth" about eternity and goodness to hold on to.

My Childhood Idol

When I was a kid, I used to idolize my dad. I thought he was a genius, a hero, a saint and a man with supernatural ability to read my mind. It was my mother who made me think that way. She used to hide many things about him.

Today, I think my dad is a smart, brave and good ordinary man. He is not perfect as my childhood dreams, but I love him anyway.

I Love You but I'm Not in Love with You

I've been in love once in my life, but it wasn't very passionate and I didn't get the girl. She's now far away from me, somewhere in Canada (that's one of the reasons that makes me hate the country!). Anyway, we wouldn't make a perfect couple. We were of opposite beliefs, ethnic groups, and the most important, different souls and passions. She hated what I loved. She was (is) very beautiful. It doesn't make sad that I couldn't be with her.

Tips for Saving Time

Well, I'm not a very good example of saving time. I have a lot of programs and I can't find enough time to take care of them. I want to improve my drawing skills, finish my novel, become a lawyer, travel around the world, find my ideal girl, learn more languages.

But in real life, I come back from work at 6pm, I go to gym until 9pm, I play with my computer and surf in the web, watch some TV, eat dinner and go to bed. That's my usual daily routine. I have to change that.

Me? An Entrepreneur?

Yes. I've always dreamed of being a successful entrepreneur. Actually, I tried to start a business about two years ago. It didn't work. I wanted to sell some photo frames. I didn't have enough money, experience and confidence. I think I should start my own business as a lawyer, and start a legal consultant firm. I really like to be independent. But I'm an employee right now.

My Hometown

I've spent my childhood in many Iranian cities including Kermanshah, Saqqez, Ahvaz, Torbat Ḥeydarīyeh, Isfahan and finally Tehran. I don't have clear memories about the first two cities, but I remember the shouth western city of Ahvaz as very hot one with slumdogs around it and a beautiful bridge over a very big river.

Torbat Ḥeydarīyeh was a small town with nosy people and a small park, a shrine, a very great tomb of a very famous monk, a great central mosque and a small cinema. It's people were famous for not being reliable, but I remember them as friendly and warm.

I don't have very happy memories about Isfahan, though it is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I was born in Isfahan, but I was considered as a stranger and was not warmly accepted among other children. And there were a lot of problems in our family and neighborhood.

For me, living in Tehran, the metropolis, was more relieving and peaceful. We lived in suburbs in the first 8 years and now we are living in a residential in northern Tehran.

I Hope I Never Lose...

I love myself and don't want this feeling to change ever. I try to keep myself away from guilt, disappointment or humiliation. I'm a friend of my soul; a very good friend indeed.

I love you Yahya and I will never let you down.

On Being in the Spotlight

I've been on stage a lot of times. I've played many roles on stage when I was a kid and attended an acting course when I was in college. It feels great, especially when the show is a success and the spectators explode in clapping and shouting...

Oh god, I miss being on stage.

A Fictional Character I'd Like to Hang Out With

Fictional characters are usually depictions of real life characters around the author. So, they already exist and there is no need to bring them to life. Anyway, I would like to bring God (from the movie Bruce Almighty, for example) to real life and show him what a mess he has made.

My Stress Level

I'm usually criticized for being too carefree to the point of imprudence. It makes some people mad and some others are jealous of me. I happy with the way I am, but even for me there are situations where I feel really under stress. For example, I'm a very miser person and I get nervous when someone owes me money but doesn't pay back. Anyway, I try to avoid these stressful situations.

How I Stay Focused

When I read something important, for example for an exam of something, I write down every irrelevant idea that comes to my mind and promise myself to think about it later. This way I can stop my mind from wandering in memories from the past or plans for future.

A Memorable Job Interview

About 4 or 5 years ago, I had a very good chance for having a well paid job in one of the organizations of Tehran Municipality. The head of that organization found out that I know the son of one of his old friends and asked me to take him with myself to the interview. It turned out that they needed only one of us and I was the one who was dismissed, because the boss preferred to hire the son of his old friend. I lost the opportunity only because I tried to help a friend.

Friendship sucks.

If I Had One Hour in a Time Machine...

I would travel to one month later, then get all the information about prices of future contracts of crude oil, then come back an invest a lot of money for buying (or selling) future contracts and make a lot money!

Yes, that's greedy.

My Ancestors' Stories

There are rumors that we are descendants of Imam Hasan (625 - 669) , son of Imam Ali. But that's not proved. Whats for sure is that our first known ancestor, Kiamarz, lived in the province of Mazandaran, north of Iran. My next ancestors were farmers and clergymen. They worked on their own farms and were highly respected among the people. Our only family enemy was the former Shah of Iran, because he imprisoned my grandfather for refusing to give up his lands. Anyway, my father participated in the Islamic revolution which overthrow Shah. My father then fought in Iran-Iraq war, became a commander and was honored with a medal of courage. He is still a member of the revolutionary guard.

What I Want to be Remembered For

"Hafiz of Shiraz" (1325/26–1389/90), a Persian poet, said: I haven't seen better than the voice of love, any legacy that will last in this ever changing world.

He proved to be right, because he is still the most popular poet in Iran.

I don't have enough love to create such lyric masterpieces as what Hafiz did. But I try to write some stories.

What My Home Says About Me

My home proves that I'm an introvert who don't care about outside and appearance and has very messy inside. You know, the windows are very dirty and the curtains are always closed. There are signs of a lot of unfinished businesses all around the rooms. Half read books, half painted canvases, a wrecked guitar, many unfinished scripts. You know, my home is pretty much like myself. You can find many beautiful things inside and outside of it, but it lacks order and discipline.

A Letter to Someone from High School

Dear Mohammad Hussein

Hey

You know, you were one of the most influencing persons in my life. You drew my attention to the politics and Islamic culture. You made me think about them and I can say that you were the one who helped me get rid of my prejudices.

With your help, I entered a world that you, yourself, failed to enter. Now I am enjoying freedom, but I know you can't be free.

You were afraid to escape. You stayed in the prison.
